Wow, this is smart.  Create some vaporware that people can’t resist looking at and then stuff the products site full of malware.  And that’s all the SB6309 Lighter Phone has to offer, unless of course it is real.  Conceptually, though, you have to give the designer and schemers some credit.  How often have you reached for a lighter only to only find a cell phone and a crumpled up gum wrapper in your pocket?  Nonetheless, I’m sure this product will show up under the FAA’s Richard Reed list.

Samsung’s MEMS Shutter To Improve Cell Phone Camera

So why do cell phones with their 5 megapixel cameras take such craptastic photos? Hello, my dedicated 2 megapixel camera from years ago snaps much better pics? Well, the answer lies in the electro-mechanical shutter. Digital cameras have an effective shutter that regulates the amount of light coming in. Cell phones do not due to size and cost constraints.

Samsung is about to finally change that with a tiny 2.2mm diameter circular shutter based on their MEMS (Microelectromechanical systems) technology. Once integrated, this would dramatically improve the quality of cell phone snapshots.

Concept: Nokia Aeon Handset

Before you get too excited about the Nokia Aeon handset, you should know that it’s currently only a concept device and appeared as so in the film Echelon Conspiracy. With that said, we can only tell you about what we see, which is a complete touchscreen with some sort of interface that involves a virtual scroll wheel.  In my opinion the handset looks a bit oversimplified, but that’s kind of the corner stone for Nokia, at least in many developing countries, right?
