October 5th, 2009 2:39 PM | by Christen da Costa

htc-tilt-2-and-pure

AT&T officially announced the availability of the HTC Tilt 2 and Pure.  We’ve already seen the Tilt 2 with official AT&T branding and it looks like they’ll be charging a pretty hefty sum much like the other carriers out there.  The PURE on the other hand, will be a bit cheaper but still cost a a pretty penny.  On a more positive note, both of these phones will be the first to sport Windows Mobile 6.5 on the AT&T network.

Feature wise the Tilt 2 has a 3.6-inch touchscreen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard.  They’ve also stuffed in dual speakers and dual microphones for some much needed and always welcomed noise cancellation.  Optics wise were looking at a 3.2 megapixel camera.  The Tilt 2 will be available in a few weeks for $299.99 after a 2-year contract signing and $50 mail-in-rebate.

The Pure sports a larger 5 megapixel camera but has a smaller 3.2-inch screen.  It will go on sale today for $199.99 after a 2-year and $50 mail-in-rebate.

LG Shoves Out The GD510, Claims To Be The Most Compact 3-inch Touch Screen Phone (video)

October 1st, 2009 11:32 AM | by Christen da Costa

lg-gd510-packshot

LG officially announced their “Pop” phone yesterday, better known as the GD510.  It lays claim to being the most compact 3-inch touchscreen phone on the market today, although I’m not sure how they’re qualifying that statement.  What’s really drawing headlines, though, is the optional solar panel back cover that can provide you with those added minutes of talk time when in a pinch.  Other features include 8GB of storage, a single home button that doubles as a call start/end button (it blinks green for answer, red for end) and a 3 megapixel camera.

There’s no word on a price, but you can expect the LG GD510 in the EU this October with other markets following shortly behind.

Garmin’s nuvifone G60 Launch Date And Price On AT&T Wireless Announced

September 29th, 2009 9:18 AM | by Christen da Costa

garmin-asus-nuvifone-g60

Well folks, believe it or not, but the wait for the Garmin nuvifone G60 is almost over.  On October 4th AT&T Wireless well begin selling the handset for $299 after a 2-year contract signing and $100 mail-in-rebate.  Garmin-Asus’ G60 is said to provide the “easiest-to-use location experiences available because it is the only phone to fully integrate the world’s best selling GPS navigator with voice, data and mobile web.”  So it’s probably best to think about the G60 as a GPS with an integrated phone, and not the other way around.

The G60 will include a 3 megapixel camera with geo tagging, be preloaded with a ton of POIs, have access to AT&T’s 20,000 WiFi hotspots and come packed with a dashboard and windshield mount.  When the G60 is removed from the in car mounts it will automatically mark your position just in case you can’t find your way back to your car in the crowded mall parking lot.

So the question on everyone’s mind is can the G60 compete with the iPhone?  Fortunately, and unlike many other smartphone’s out there, it sounds like the G60 will be a fully functional GPS, which is something Apple’s handset is most certainly not, unless of course you purchase some aftermarket accessories, which even then could be a stretch.  300 bones is quite a lot to spend on a phone, but if you consider the cost of a GPS and a phone combined, then you might look at this as a steal.  Just keep in mind that the battery life will most certainly be a concern since GPS tends to be a hog in this department. …Continue reading: Garmin’s nuvifone G60 Launch Date And Price On AT&T Wireless Announced

china-unicom-iphone

If you’re heading to China, or happen to live there and read this blog, then you’ll pleased to hear that China’s Unicom will start selling the iPhone on October 1st.  Price you ask?  Just a nauseating 5,000 yuan or $732.50.  A total of 8 plans (126 yuan to 886 yuan per month) will be available to Unicom iPhone customers and with them will come a wide range of kickbacks or subsidies that start at 893 yaun and go up to 4,253 yaun.

Sure, most people in China can’t afford these prices, but even a small fraction of China’s 1 billion citizens could be significant revenue for Apple and Unicom.  Furthermore, China is currently experience massive growth - they’re in a sort of industrial age - so more and more people will be able to afford luxuries in the coming years.
