While I can’t predict the weather, one thing is for sure: a storm is on the way. To be more specific the Storm 2 from RIM. Yup, they’re releasing the second iteration of the device on October 28th, at least according to some leaked documentation. This is supposed to be the launch day of Motorola’s Droid, but Verizon isn’t exactly known for warm and fuzziness. I’m far from excited, especially after playing with the original Storm and predicting its demise. Expect to drop $179.99 after a 2-year contract signing and $100 mail-in-rebate.

We still don’t know much about T-Mobile’s Project Dark, but I guess that sort of explains the chosen name. Now, thanks to a leaked add (pictured above) it looks like T-Mobile will have 2 unlimited plans to choose from, although it’s far from clear what those will be.
My best guess is that the ‘Even More’ plan applies to any phone of your choosing, while the ‘Even More Plus Plan’ provides you with same unlimited plan, but provides a significant discount on a select number of handsets. Then again, it could be some sort of crazy international or data plan that isn’t currently offered by any carrier. Word is that T-Mobile will lift their veil of secrecy sometime early next week or perhaps as early as the end of this week.
Update: It looks like the unlimited plans are as follows per BGR:
Individual Plan – No 2-year commitment
- 500 Minutes – $30
- 500 + Unlimited Text – $40
- 500 + Unlimited Text + Unlimited Web – $60
- 1000 Minutes – $40
- 1000 + Unlimited Text – $50
- 1000 +Unlimited Text + Unlimited Web – $70
- Unlmited Talk – $50
- Unlimited Talk + Unlimited Text – $60
- Unlimited Talk +Unlimited Text + Unlimited Web – $80
Family Plan – Includes 2-lines + 2-year commitment
- 750 Minutes – $60
- 750 + Unlimited Text – $80
- 750 + Unlimited Text + Unlimited Web – $140
- 1500 Minutes – $80
- 1500 + Unlimited Text – $100
- 1500 + Unlimited Text + Unlimited Web – $160
- Unlimited Minutes – $100
- Unlimited Talk + Unlimited Text – $120
- Unlimited Talk + Unlimited Text + Unlimited Web – $18

It looks like Verizon is set to launch yet another HTC phone, yet this one, the HTC XV6975 Imagio, lacks a physical QWERTY keyboard. While price and actual launch date are still unknown, specs wise were looking at a 3.6-inch touchscreen, Windows Mobile 6.5, microSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, 528mhz processor of some sort, 5mp autofocus camera, WiFi, Opera browser, HTC TouchFLO user interface and CDMA/GSM connectivity. And get this, it’s the first Verizon smartphone to support Vcast MobileTV, that is if you’re into watching TV on your cell phone.

We’ve kind of avoided the Dell Smartphone rumor thing for sometime, but now high rez pics of the handset have surfaced, so ignore we can no more. The Dell Mini 3i packs a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, 3 megapixel camera, microSD card slot and is chalk full of the Android OS. It looks like it’s heading off to China first and foremost, and if it proves to be anything like Dell’s attempt at an iPod, I wouldn’t expect to see it hit US shores…ever.

The Blackberry Storm hasn’t exactly been the smash success that Verizon or RIM had hoped for. As a result, they’ve spent no time denying the existence of the next iteration of the device and even sent an early build to the folks at Crackberry.com for a hands on.
Thanks to a set of leaked documents we now know - that is assuming these are legit and accurate - that the Storm 2 (aka 9550) will arrive in Verizon retail stores on 10/14, while business customers will gain access to the device on 9/29. Pricing is still an unknown, but I’d expect it to be about $200 upon launch.

Last week we got our first official peak at Nokia’s newest phone, the N900. While we’ve known of its existence for a while, previous to Mobile-reviews official hands on we had only seen renders and heard rumors of the device. Now, today someone has leaked an official press shot and as you can see it matches up to last week’s leak. Nokia is set to kick off Nokia World on September 2nd, which is when we should get an official announcement along with specs and availability of the touchscreen phone.

Sprint is scrapping to make a come back and if anything is gonna help them, aside from the Palm PRE, it’s the Android powered devices. The InstinctQ - a spin off of the original Instinct that Sprint launched a many a months ago - is set to run the Android OS and include a full slideout QWERTY keyboard underneath its hood. The joystick appears to be of the optical flavor, while the ‘home’ button and ‘back’ buttons are integrated into the phone’s touchscreen. There’s no word on an official launch date but I’d guess in time for the holiday shopping season.

Back in May we saw rendered images of Nokia’s N900 (aka Rover, aka Maemo Flagship). Now, according to Mobile-review.com this is the handset in the flesh. As you can see it’s very similar to Mobile Crunch’s renders and it includes Nokia’s awkward (misaligned spacebar) QWERTY keyboard setup. OS wise were looking at Maemo, and praise the lord because any more Symbian and I think I’d have to choke myself out on my own vomit (yes, I hate Symbian that much). Of course, I haven’t tried my hand a Maemo, but its my assumption that any mobile OS (Windows excluded) is an improvement over the Nokia standard.
So will this be a game changer for Nokia? Perhaps, but I have my doubts. The N900’s form factor looks very similar to the N97, and despite it having a higher resolution screen (800×400) I’m still concerned that the it will lack serious multitouch abilities, such as the iPhone. It looks very chunky for the pocket, which was one of my gripes with the N97 (review coming tomorrow). I took a look at some of the operating system’s screen shots, Maemo, and I’m very impressed with how clean and simple it looks.

At this point I think it’s safe to say that just about every carrier, except Sprint, will be carrierring their own branded version of the HTC Touch Pro2. And to firm things up, leaked photos of an AT&T Touch Pro2 have emerged complete with AT&T badges. Except when it comes to market on the biggest carrier it will be called the Tilt 2. We still don’t have a price or launch date, but considering we’re seeing pics of the phone in the flesh I’d expect it to go retail well in time for the Q4 holiday shopping season.
