I just got done reading an article in Biz Week about Motorola’s move to the Android platform. The once dominant cell phone manufacture has fully signed on to the OS and has plans to pretty much reinvigorate their cell phone business using the open source platform. So it’s no surprise that images of the company’s first Android handset have leaked out to the press.
Called the Shules, or Sholes - no one really knows, but it’s a terrible name, like the shoe inserts - it’s a slide out QWERTY handset with a 3.7-inch 480×854 resolution touchscreen. There is also a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, EVDO Rev A connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth and a microSD card slot. The Motorola Shules is expected to land this October on Verizon Wireless.

The Toshiba TG01, which just launched on Orange, has passed through the FCC. The version listed in the docs is a production unit, which potentially indicates a sooner than later launch of the Snapdragon powered phone here in the US. The phone is listed with support for CDMA networks, which means that it should pop up on Verizon or Sprint.

Looks like BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 has been leaked on the web. The brand spankin’ new messenger purportedly works on BlackBerry OS 4.5 through OS 5.1. So what are you waiting for? Hit the link and give it a try. According to BGR, the new BBM 5.0 is much improved and features the following:
- Avatar support — set your own avatar using the Camera or saved photo on your device (this is displayed locally as well as shown next to your Messenger name on your friend’s buddy list)
- GPS location integration — you can now set permissions so friends can always see your location, have to request it each time, or never can see it
- Proximity sensor — we’re guessing this will let you know if you’re within a certain distance of friends (pending, of course, you’re both set to share locations freely with each other)
- Set conversation subjects — this will allow you to organize your convos on the main Messenger screen and label them with subjects to keep track of all your conversations
- Homescreen support — you can pin/sticky actual Messenger contacts directly to the homescreen for easy access!

Well, well, it looks like the Dell smartphone rumors were true. What we have here is a leaked snapshot of a Dell branded Android smartphone. Reports indicate Dell is set to release multiple handsets in 2G and 3G flavors in the near future. Let’s just hope the UI doesn’t come in that ‘trix are for kids’ theme.

Apple’s been pretty tight lipped with the specs of their new iPhone 3G S but a leak from T-Mobile Netherlands indicates a juiced up 600MHz CPU and 256MB of RAM (up from the 412MHz/128MB RAM iPhone 3G). Combined with 3G S’s new PowerVR SGX graphics chip with Open GL ES 2.0, one can expect some pretty spectacular graphics crammed into a mobile phone. In other words, if you love gaming on your iPhone, you’ll definitely want to pick this up.
