LG announced their first Android-based smartphone, the LG GW620. Not much is known besides the 3 inch touchscreen and slide out QWERTY keyboard but expect more details in the near future. From the looks of it, it seems to be a pretty snazzy device, fairly thin for a slider. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Is this the phone that will save Motorola’s handset division?
Called the Cliq, it’s the first of many Android handsets that are set to emerge from Motorola this year and next. This one features a full QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, 5 megapixel camera, video recording abilities, 3G connectivity and a slew of other features. But like Transformers, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the Cliq.
Sure, it runs Android, which probably stands to be the second most popular mobile OS, that is if Google has there way. But what really stands out is MOTOBLUR, which is best described as Motorola’s proprietary home screen skin. In essence it’s just another Android app, but MOTOBLUR is one smart cookie. Not only does it display all your social networking info - messages, status updates and newsfeeds - on the home screen, but it can suck down your friend’s Facebook info and automatically update your contact list’s pictures, numbers, emails and other pertinent info. Furthermore, all info is synced with the MOTOBLUR secure server, so in the event that you lose the device you don’t lose the info. You can either locate the device using the phone’s built-in GPS and/or wipe the device clean of any data.
The Motorola Cliq, with MOTOBLUR will launch on T-Mobile during the 4th quarter for a yet to be disclosed price. The device will be renamed the Motorola DEXT for European and South American markets and will launch probably sometime next year. …Continue reading: Motorola’s First Android Handset: The Cliq With MOTOBLUR

Sprint is scrapping to make a come back and if anything is gonna help them, aside from the Palm PRE, it’s the Android powered devices. The InstinctQ - a spin off of the original Instinct that Sprint launched a many a months ago - is set to run the Android OS and include a full slideout QWERTY keyboard underneath its hood. The joystick appears to be of the optical flavor, while the ‘home’ button and ‘back’ buttons are integrated into the phone’s touchscreen. There’s no word on an official launch date but I’d guess in time for the holiday shopping season.

I just got done reading an article in Biz Week about Motorola’s move to the Android platform. The once dominant cell phone manufacture has fully signed on to the OS and has plans to pretty much reinvigorate their cell phone business using the open source platform. So it’s no surprise that images of the company’s first Android handset have leaked out to the press.
Called the Shules, or Sholes - no one really knows, but it’s a terrible name, like the shoe inserts - it’s a slide out QWERTY handset with a 3.7-inch 480×854 resolution touchscreen. There is also a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS, EVDO Rev A connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth and a microSD card slot. The Motorola Shules is expected to land this October on Verizon Wireless.

In case you aint’ heard, specs for Sony’s Xperia Android phone, the X3 Rachel, leaked out earlier this week. You can expect an 8 megapixel camera with an LED flash and the usual camera features such as image stabilization, face detect and some VGA video recording abilities. Connectivity wise were looking at quad-band GSM, dual band 3G, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi b/g. There’s a microSD card slot for expansion, aGPS to get you from place to place and a 3.5mm headphone jack. We don’t know when it will arrive, but were expecting an official announcement from Sony Ericsson any day now.
