Oh yes, Nokia’s E71x is now officially available from AT&T! At just $99 after a 2-year contract signing and $50 mail-in-rebate, this full QWERTY keyboarded handset is actually a steal when compared to other Nokia handsets of a similar form factor. Features include 3G, GPS, 3.2MP camera, media player, 2.4-inch 240×320 screen, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD card slot and a 4 hour talk time on a single charge. Color me excited!

I heard murmurs of a purported AT&T network upgrade and today the rumor has been confirmed by an AT&T spokes person. Soon customers will be able to enjoy peak download speeds of about 3.6Mbps versus the current 1.7Mbps. Current 3G customers achieve about 500 - 700Kbps, so if all things are relative the updated network should provide download speeds in the upper 1Mbps. The updated 3G network is currently undergoing trials in just two markets, but will roll out nationwide when tests are complete.

June is just two months off, which is the rumored month for the 4th gen iPhone. And as that date - whenever it is - draws closer we keep seeing new deals for the current iPhone 3G emerging. AT&T, which sold 16GB refurbished iPhones in select stores has begun to offer the handset in its highest capacity online. You can grab one in black or white for $150 after a 2 year contract. Personally, I’d just hold out and see what pops up in two month, but if you can’t wait and don’t care about a previously used product this is a good deal.

AT&T launched the FamilyMap phone locator aka “spy on your kids” service. At $10 per month, a parent would be able to furtively track the whereabouts of two of their kids’ phones through a PC browser or mobile phone. The $15/month plan extends the service to five phones.
Dunno about you but this sounds a bit “big brotherly” especially since the technology could be used to easily track, oh, I don’t know, just about ANY employee without them knowing.

Although Samsung ’s SGH-A657 candybar phone isn’t exactly a looker, it’s rugged build and semi-versatile feature set will most certainly compliment your hard hat lifestyle. Rated to military specs - that means you can drop, submerge and dirty it - the SGH-A657 is a quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) handset with HSDPA connectivity. It’s other features include Bluetooth with A2DP, push to talk, 3 hour talk time, music player, 128MB internal memory with microSD card slot for expansion, aGPS and a built-in flash light. No word on an official launch date or price at this time, but I’d expect it to hit AT&T any day now.

According to reports, AT&T is beginning trials of their 3G MicroCell HSPA-enabled femtocell this week. MicroHUH? FemtoWHAT?? Yah, sounds a bit weird but basically you connect a femtocell device to your broadband connection and presto-chango your normally weak cell signal is boosted to five bars of no-drop bliss. …Continue reading: AT&T Customers To Trial 3G MicroCell This Week

No day, or week for that matter is complete without a rumor. So in light of TGIF I bring you an iPhone rumor, this one regarding an updated camera. Digitimes is reporting that OmniVision has scored a deal with Apple to produce a 3.2MP sensor that is presumably for the rumored and upcoming iPhone that should hit this June. Additionally, the report states that they also scored a deal to produce a 5 megapixel sensor that is not for the iPhone, but another product that will launch later this year. Apple Netbook? Maybe.
