The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) plans to announce the Bluetooth 3.0 specification on the 21st of April. The new spec provides for vastly increased speeds (think Wi-Fi speeds) capable of transferring large multimedia files. It accomplishes this using Generic Alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) technology via Wi-Fi and it goes something like, “Hey, Mr. 802.11 Wi-Fi protocol, it’s me, the AMP chick, how about we hook up and hop onto your data stream…
Bluetooth 3.0 technology also provides for a more robust connection by utilizing Enhanced Power Control (EPC) technology. This aims to reduce the frequency of ‘disconnects’ while the phone is being put into a pocket, purse, etc.
