
Verizon Wireless officially kicked out their Samsung Alias 2 today. It’s the first phone to sport an e-ink keypad that automatically changes the orientation of its keys from ‘keypad’ to ‘QWERTY’ depending on how the phone is opened. It’s yours for $79.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate and two year contract singing.

The news on the street is that Samsung’s Alias 2 will launch on May 11 at the Verizon store. The cool thing about this phone? It’ll possibly be using E Ink for its keypad, making it the first US handheld using such technology. Since the keypad is dynamic in nature it can change from a full landscape QWERTY keyboard to a portrait numeric keypad, drawing power only when it makes this switch. Innovative? Green? Cool? You betcha.
