Good news all you HTC Hero owners with serious DROID/Google NAV envy: Android 2.0 will be coming to your phone…eventually. Straight from the horse’s mouth:
“Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero.”

AT&T officially announced the availability of the HTC Tilt 2 and Pure. We’ve already seen the Tilt 2 with official AT&T branding and it looks like they’ll be charging a pretty hefty sum much like the other carriers out there. The PURE on the other hand, will be a bit cheaper but still cost a a pretty penny. On a more positive note, both of these phones will be the first to sport Windows Mobile 6.5 on the AT&T network.
Feature wise the Tilt 2 has a 3.6-inch touchscreen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard. They’ve also stuffed in dual speakers and dual microphones for some much needed and always welcomed noise cancellation. Optics wise were looking at a 3.2 megapixel camera. The Tilt 2 will be available in a few weeks for $299.99 after a 2-year contract signing and $50 mail-in-rebate.
The Pure sports a larger 5 megapixel camera but has a smaller 3.2-inch screen. It will go on sale today for $199.99 after a 2-year and $50 mail-in-rebate.

It was just a few days ago that we got word of Verizon’s Imagio handset, and now today the wireless company has made it official. As previously mentioned this will be one of the first handsets to sport the long awaited Windows Mobile 6.5. Unlike many of HTC’s phones, the Imagio lacks a slide out QWERTY keyboard but does have a 3.6-inch touchscreen, Verizon’s Vcast Mobile TV, 5 megapixel camera and a bevy of other delightful features to keep you entertained.
The Imagio will go on sale October 6th for $199.99 after a 2-year contract and $100 mail-in-rebate.

Word on the street is that Sprint has come to their senses and will slash the price of the HTC Touch Pro2 from $349.99 to $199.99 after contract signing and mail-in-rebate on October 1st. This move only seemed inevitable since Verizon already sells the exact same handset for the purported new lower price and with the iPhone and many other smartphones costing less it’s probably the only rational thing to do when it comes to remaining slightly competitive. Course if I were you, I’d just buy me a Palm PRE from Letstalk.com, who is currently selling it for $79.99 after all the fine print stuff.
Note: if you bought the phone before this rumor emerged, hit up Sprint’s customer care and you should be able to get $100 credit, at least that’s what some folks are saying. Course, you might have to wait until this news becomes official.

It looks like Verizon is set to launch yet another HTC phone, yet this one, the HTC XV6975 Imagio, lacks a physical QWERTY keyboard. While price and actual launch date are still unknown, specs wise were looking at a 3.6-inch touchscreen, Windows Mobile 6.5, microSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, 528mhz processor of some sort, 5mp autofocus camera, WiFi, Opera browser, HTC TouchFLO user interface and CDMA/GSM connectivity. And get this, it’s the first Verizon smartphone to support Vcast MobileTV, that is if you’re into watching TV on your cell phone.

It draws its name from the ability for users to completely customize the handset in all facets, which might even included the back cover of the device. Sprint is set to launch the HTC Touch Pro2 on September 8th for a wallet damaging price of $350, the same price at T-Mobile. Worst of all that’s after the $100 mail-in-rebate and 2-year contract signing. It looks like HTC is charging carriers an arm and a leg for this device since similar smartphones generally cost about $150 less. We’ve seen the Touch Pro2 with Verizon branding as well as an AT&T variant called the Tilt 2. I wonder how much those carriers will be selling the phone for?

It seems new photos of the elusive HTC Leo has turned up on the net. It’s a droolworthy phone going by the specs alone: 4.3 inch WVGA 480×800 capacitive touchscreen, Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon processor, Wi-Fi, GPS/a-GPS, accelerometer, 3.5mm headset jack, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus/ dual-LED flash, 512MB flash memory/320MB RAM.
If the photo is genuine, the phone is the real deal. Sexy, carbon black look, huge screen, powerful specs? Eh, we’ll just have to wait and see.
