Next Gen iPhone Images Leaked?

June 5th, 2009 4:47 PM | by Albert

newiphone1

Looks like new photos of the upcoming 3rd generation iPhone have been leaked. Who knows if they’re real but if it’s the real deal we can gather a few interesting things:

  • Opaque back, slip resistant finish–less likely to smudge
  • Power button on the top left instead of right
  • Headphone jack on the bottom right instead of top left
  • New side button on bottom right side, possibly a camera button

Well, in any case, all will be revealed at the WWDC that’s coming up in a few days.

According to Gruber from Daring Fireball, “informed sources” report the next gen iPhone will receive a processor boost in the form of a 600MHz processor, up from the current 400MHz CPU. If true, this could noticeably improve the performance of iPhone apps, especially on the gaming front. Other possible improvements include a magnetometer (a digital compass) and a video camera for your video conferencing needs.

Gruber predicts a June iPhone announcement at the Apple WWDC followed by a July release.

Leak: T-Mobile Posts 32GB iPhone Place Holder

May 22nd, 2009 12:49 PM | by Christen da Costa

While I’m not one to make a stink about typos, this one certainly warrants some attention. It would appear that T-Mobile’s Austria website posted a placeholder for a 32GB iPhone. Since Austria isn’t probably at the top of Apple’s list for distribution of the soon to arrive generation 3 iPhone I’m not sure how much weight the slip up should hold, but it most certainly brings creedence to many of the rumors regarding a 32GB iPhone that we’ve been hearing about.

Yahoo! Mobile For iPhone Now Has Voice Search

May 21st, 2009 8:48 AM | by Albert

yahoo_mobile

The Yahoo! Mobile iPhone app (also for BlackBerries) now has voice search capability. This comes months after Google released their implementation. So why did it take so long, Yahoo? You should learn to copy more quickly.

Anywhere a search bar is located, you can simply press a button, speak what you want to find and there you have it. Quite handy especially if you’re on the move.

The word on the street is that AT&T may lower their monthly service plan for iPhones as early as this month. The discount may be as much as $10 per month or they could go with a tiered price plan based on data use limits. Whatever the case may be it’s a win for the consumer as AT&T is trying to increase iPhone sales.

iPhone ‘Push Notification’ Official, Testing Starts With The AP App

May 18th, 2009 4:59 PM | by Christen da Costa

iphone-push-notification

I think I speak for every iPhone user when I say ‘we’ve been eagerly anticipating the arrival of push notification’ for iPhone apps.  Today, word has come through that ‘push’ will in fact be rolled out in iPhone Software 3.0 and here are some screen shots to prove it.  To kick things off, Apple has chosen the Associated Press’ iPhone app to test the feature since the app calls for a heavy load of notifications.  Apple has asked developers to let them know if they don’t receive notification for 48 hours, as this probably means there is something wrong.  I gotta admit, though, testing the feature with less than 30 days until its official unveiling does seem a bit precarious on Apple’s part.

SlingPlayer Mobile Coming Soon To iPhone, No 3G Support

May 12th, 2009 1:06 PM | by Albert

slingplayer-mobile-iphone-cars

It’s been a long time coming but the SlingPlayer Mobile is officially coming to your iPhone. BUT with one big caveat: no 3G support…pretty much a serious blow as you’ll only be able to use it effectively on a Wi-Fi signal. And it’s a whopping $30 smackaroos?? The only saving grace I see is that they lifted the ban on older Slingboxes (but without official support). Bittersweet news indeed.

iPhone 3.0 Software Shows Improved Photo Snapping

May 5th, 2009 4:48 PM | by Christen da Costa

Pardon the pun, but it looks like the newest iPhone software, which has yet to be released to the public, produces better quality images when snapping photos with the handset’s 2 megapixel camera.  Although Apple hasn’t publicly made any announcements regarding tweaks to the iPhone’s software since they announced 3.0 a few month ago, numerous features have been unearthed in beta testing.   Also, rumors surfaced last month that Apple’s next iteration of the iPhone, gen 3, will have a 3.2 megapixel camera.
