T-Mobile and Samsung officially launched the Gravity 2 today.  They’re billing it as an “affordable 3G messaging phone”, and at $30 with a 2-year contact signing I’d have to agree ($50 mail-in-rebate required).  It features a slide out QWERTY keyboard, 2 megapixel camera, GPS, microSD card slot, Bluetooth and is available in metallic pumpkin & berry mauve.

Leak: Sprint’s Samsung InstinctQ Android Phone Gets The Picture Treatment

August 19th, 2009 8:05 PM | by Christen da Costa

samsung-instinctq

Sprint is scrapping to make a come back and if anything is gonna help them, aside from the Palm PRE, it’s the Android powered devices.  The InstinctQ - a spin off of the original Instinct that Sprint launched a many a months ago - is set to run the Android OS and include a full slideout QWERTY keyboard underneath its hood.  The joystick appears to be of the optical flavor, while the ‘home’ button and ‘back’ buttons are integrated into the phone’s touchscreen.  There’s no word on an official launch date but I’d guess in time for the holiday shopping season.

Sprint Announces The Samsung Reclaim, The Carriers Eco Torch

August 6th, 2009 1:57 PM | by Christen da Costa

samsung-reclaim-package

It might bear a similar resemblance to the Propel, but Samsung’s Reclaim is all about Eco-friendly. So much so in fact that its box is crafted from 70 percent recycled materials and printed using a Soy based ink.   Also adding to the ‘green’ factor is the phone’s outer casing, which is comprised of 40% bio-plastic material, made from corn.  And those thick paper manuals are replaced with virtual ones, something most companies have been doing for a while now to cut their costs.

Feature wise were looking at a slideout QWERTY keyboard, 2 megapixel camera, Sprint Navigation, Bluetooth with A2DP, memory slot expandable to 32GB, web browser and two eco stating colors to choose from: Blue and Green.

The Samsung Reclaim will hit Sprint stores and website on August 16th and cost $50 after a 2-year contract signing and $50 mail-in-rebate.  Interesting.  I wonder if the mail-in-rebate can be entered online, otherwise they might be negating their green statement.

Additionally, Sprint is taking full advantage of this product release by announcing a new section to their Sprint stores, which will highlight eco conscious products, such as the SOLIO Solar Charger and carrying cases made from recycled materials.

AT&T Confirms Samsung Solstice Launch Date And Price

July 30th, 2009 11:58 AM | by Christen da Costa

samsung-solstice-1

Taking on a very similar form factor to the Highlight, AT&T officially announced the impending arrival of the Samsung Solstice. It’s for the most part your garden variety touchscreen phone with a 3-inch display, Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and haptic feedback. Unlike the Highlight, though, the Solstice includes 3G connectivity but lacks a lower rez 2 megapixel camera. Memory comes by way of microSD card slot and I’d expect the usual other amenties such as a music player and Bluetooth.

You can expect the Solstice at AT&T on August 2nd for $100.

Samsung’s S9110 Watch Phone Is The World’s Thinnest, Destined For French Shores

July 23rd, 2009 12:59 AM | by Christen da Costa

samsung-s9110-1

With the impending launch of LG’s Watch Phone in the UK this August it’s no surprise other handset manufacturers are drawing their guns.  Yesterday, Samsung pulled the wraps of their very own watch phone, the S9110, which by the way lays claim to the world’s slimmest at 11.98mm (slightly thinner than the iPhone).

Sveltness aside, we’re also looking at a 1.76-inch scratch resistant touchscreen, email, Bluetooth, speaker phone, voice recognition and a stainless steel body complimented by a leather band.  LG can breath easy, though, since Samsung’s ode to the days of Dick Tracy isn’t heading to the UK, at least not anytime soon, but will show up around the same time in France for €450 ($640 US).
