pre-vzw-hack

A clever hacker who goes by the name “Cleanser” managed to coax the Sprint-only Palm Pre to work on the Verizon network. No details on how it was done but the Cleanser’s got voice and SMS working on the phone. No data, yet, but it’s a great start to what will hopefully become a full blown unlockable Pre. Check the vid after the ‘leap’. …Continue reading: Palm Pre Hacked To Work On Verizon

Verizon customers will be happy to know that the much vaunted BlackBerry Tour will be available on July 12th in stores and online. You can pre-order it now for the introductory price of $200. June 9th, 2009 3:06 PM | by Albert

verizon-touch-pro

The latest firmware 1.08 update for Verizon’s HTC Touch Pro adds visual voicemail among other features. The firmware is free but the visual voicemail service will cost users an addition $3/month. Not worth it, IMO, unless you get a ton of voicemail.

Other new features include:

  • Access to the GPS sensor via Google Maps
  • Windows Live Search for Mobile
  • EVRC-B codec support for improved calling management during heavy network congestion

htc-touch-pro2-verizon

HTC’s Touch Pro 2 is said to be landing in the US sometime in June, and a recently leaked image showing the handset with Verizon branding seems to firm up that rumor.  No word on price, but the Touch Pro2 launched last month in Singapore for an unsubsidized $887, a price no one would pay here in the UK or US.

lg-envtouch

With the official Palm PRE release date out in the open, news of a June 5th launch for Verizon’s enV Touch is a bit on the moot side.  Nonetheless, the handset we saw leaked last month (known as the EnV3), will include both a 3-inch internal and external (800×480) touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera, full HTML browser, EV-DO connectivity and a QWERTY keyboard.  When it goes on sale next month expect it to cost $149.99 with a 2-year contract and $70 mail-in-rebate, although there seems to be conflicting reports on the price point.

verizon 4g rollout

Verizon Wireless is expected to launch their next gen, ultra-fast 4G network to 20-30 U.S. markets in the second half of 2010. After that they’ll continue to roll out to the rest of the nation until late 2013 to early 2014. This is some pretty exciting stuff, folks, since 4G trials indicate speeds between 50 to 60 Mbps. With these speeds who needs home broadband? Heck, who needs a life?

Phone Rumor: Verizon iPhone In The Works?

April 28th, 2009 8:53 AM | by Albert

verizon-iphone

Rumors have been swirling around lately that Verizon is in talks with Apple to bring iPhone-like devices to their network. Some insiders report they’ve seen a more basic version of the iPhone best described as “iPhone-lite”. Another device that may be in the works is a larger tablet-like device that focuses more on multimedia playback. And, of course, neither company wants to confirm anything so take it as you will.

Some analysts are saying, and I tend to agree, that it’s just a move by Apple to get a better deal with AT&T.
