
Sprint’s 4G (aka WiMax) service is now officially available in Chicago. This looks to be one of the first major metropolitan cities to offer the service. That means you can travel virtually anywhere in Chicago with your laptop an enjoy blazing fast download and upload speeds. Of course you’ll need to pick up the necessary USB dongle and pay for the service.
Of note, Boston, NYC and SF are due to receive the service in 2010.

In addition to the markets coming in 2010 (Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.), Sprint announced the expansion of their hyper-speed WiMax service to 17 new markets later this year. Read ‘em and weep all you Los Angelinos:
- Maui, Hawaii
- Boise, Idaho
- Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C.
- Salem, Oregon
- Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Corpus Christi, Killeen-Temple, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, San Antonio, Waco, and Wichita Falls, Texas
- Bellingham, Washington

Clearwire plans to launch WiMAX in 10 markets on September 1. The speedy broadband wireless service, based on 4G technology, will launch in Boise, Idaho; Bellingham, Washington; and the following cities in Texas: Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Kileen/Temple, Waco, and Wichita Falls.
